16-35II - just how weak is it at 35mm?

Moving on from a crop and my beloved 10-22, I need a lens that will fulfill the gap nicely. On my 10-22 I quite often find myself shooting at the 22 end (35mm FF equiv) but I keep reading the weakness of the 16-35II is the long end.
If I am going to start off with a wide lens for my upcoming 5D3, then it is either the 16-35II, 17-40 or even perhaps one of the 24LII or 35L primes.
I do like shooting landscapes with my 10-22, and I also love it as a walk-around lens - and as I am beginning to move to pro, and would like to try and get some work in this industry eventually, I can see myself moving into weddings and hopefully some photojournalism if I master in it at college.
So given this information, is there any doubt the 16-35II is the lens for me? Or should I be looking at something else for now?

Cheers, Daniel
