D300S AF Tracking Test-Small BIF Ruddy Turnstone's
May 28, 2012

Every time I use this camera it amazes me in it's uncanny ability to acquire focus in very difficult conditions. I initially was using my D700 but it's AF tracking simply was not fast enough so I switched back to D300s. I started with the D700 as it favors higher ISO's much better but if it can't find the target then... I found these birds among the most challenging of any bird I've shot. I shot these birds, Ruddy Turnstone's this morning, in total overcast in the midst of a tropical depression with rain squalls passing through often and obviously rather dark. These birds are smaller than a cardinal as fast as heck! I rarely see any of these small birds in flight, no o ly here but anywhere, so I thought I'd show a few. They are great practice for shooting any bird.

Thanks,

Pete
