agree that tiny, good zoom lenses not possible yet

Pretty sharp prime lenses, needing no software remediation, can be made really tiny. Pentax has certainly made that point many times. Probably a narrow-zoom range lens can be small. But agree that it's just not possible yet to make a really small, 3x or more focal length range zoom lens without vignetting at large apertures, and without geometric distortion.

Having said that, software corrections ain't so terribly bad, and with them, compact zooms look quite useful. For example the current Sony kit zooms only weigh 200-220 grams and are very useful, when software cleans up their color fringing, distortion etc.
