Stephen, you are a wealth of knowledge where geese are concerned, always nice to hear what you say about them. Its nice and relaxing down the reserve i go, we have got some storks and cranes that are part of a conservation program

Good portrait of that Greylag. You've gotten some nice pictures of them and the Egyptian Geese over the years. We have an occasional Pink-footed or Bean Goose appear in Oregon, but never a Greylag. They are great flyers, even faster than Canada Geese and able to fly farther. Their close relatives, the Bar-headed and Swangeese of Asia, can fly as high as 37,000 feet and maybe higher. Many of their large domestic descendents have retained these flying abilities and I see some huge Greylag varieties, such as Diepholtz Geese from Germany, that have gone wild and fly with local Canada Geese. They seem to be 50% larger than the Canadas and can outfly them.
