CL or eBay

This topic may have been done before, but I didn't see any recent threads.

From a buyer's perspective, would you shop for used gear on eBay or Craigslist? Specifically I'm looking for the D700. I feel there are pro's and con's to each. Craigslist sometimes has better prices, and you can negotiate with the seller directly. However, exchanging large sums of money in person with a stranger can be daunting, and I worry that I won't fully get time to test and inspect the gear and discover a problem later; in which case, i'm up the proverbial creek. Ebay has buyer protection so I guess that gives it more reliability, but hot items tend to get over-bid and you end up paying more.

What's your choice? Buying/selling on this forum seems even more dangerous unless you can find someone nearby.
