70-200/2.8 VRII is said to be (probably) the sharpest zoom ever produced by Nikon. I´m sure it can be a full substitute for the primes - many tests just confirm it, too.

There is only the one drawback (as it is usually with everything) already mentioned: the weight. Carrying this lens together with another wide/midrange lens and the other photo stuff the whole day (a backback necessary IMHO) can get annoying.... sometimes kind of stopping the full amount of joy of photography in a way.... But realizing the benefits - i.e. sharpness & the zoom flexibility - and seeing the final results I can´t help myself but taking this particular heavy beast with me again and again.
