If your system is using Since you have a good number of relativly fast drives you should dedicate one drive to have nothing but you files you intend on processing. Also, change the allocation size on that drive from the default ntfs 4k size (presuming its using ntfs) to 64k.

PCs tend to perform better if they have a goodly amount of free RAM. With RAM cheap now do not skimp on RAM. 16GB is good, more May be better. Look at perfromance monitor to get a feel about how your system is behaving under load, CPU %, various queque lengths, disk activity. Whatever you do, dont' exceed physical RAM amount, paging is slow no matter what kind of HD us are using.
