I think the issue of calling 135 format "full frame" and using 35mm equivalents to describe fields of view are two different matters. Having a "standard" by which to compare the FOVs provided by different cameras with different-sized sensors is very useful ... for me at least. Personally I don't care what we call 135 format. But I find quoting FOVs using this format to be helpful at times.

the reason why the 12-35 and the 35-100 f/2.8 zooms have generated massive hype is because they give AoV similar to pro 24-70 and 70-200 2.8 zooms, which will be conveniently called "equiv. to a 24-70 and 70-200 on a FF, with light gathering of f/2.8 and DoF of f/5.6" .

We all know this is technically incorrect (again, technically), however it is much more practical to say it that way instead of "equiv to AoV of 22°50' to 34°20' on a 135 format camera". It's just not practical.
