Close to buying G1X

I've always been a big Canon fanboy, I'll admit it and I'm very close to buying a G1X.

My only real problem is the slow auto focus and the fact that Canon is famous for not doing firmware upgrades, on their compact cameras, to improve performance.

I'm not concerned about any of the other areas like video or close focusing that get slightly downgraded.

Anyway, the last G series camera I owned was a G7 and my question is; how does the G1X auto focus speed compare to a camera like the G7. About the same or a little faster?
