I love the 17-55, and every review I have seen rates it higher than any of the EF zooms (e.g., Photozone: 24-105 has less vignetting, but 17-55 is considerably sharper across the frame throughout the range). This is the one lens I would keep as long as I have an aps-c camera available.

Like you, I am considering getting a FF camera, but I plan/expect to keep the 7D (or similar) available as a backup and/or when I want the frame rate and extra reach. If I do that, I expect to get the 24-105 which will then serve as a normal zoom on FF, and as a mid-range zoom on aps-c. The aps-c lens lineup would then be very complete with a 10-24 wide, 17-55 normal, 24-105 mid, and 70-200 long zooms. All very nice lenses, covering every situation I would expect to need, with enough overlap to avoid excessive lens-swapping.
