If the subject is moving (windy or strong breeze) panos are then usually not an option.

Panos shot 3-4 panels wide and up being able to have the same aspect ratio, but able to print much larger as it now has 30+ Megapixels. When I do shoot panos, I like shooting them portrait style. It gives you more data to work with.

But single shots with ultra wide have distortion in them. For me, that is a good thing as perspective is often a welcome part of a composition.

It all depends on the end goal.

I often print very large so many times I shoot panos, but when I get the D800 later this year, I am sure I will need that less, and will start shooting more single frames with ultra wide.
