My suggestions are:
14-24/2.8
28/1.8g
Zeiss 35/2
50/1.8g
85/1.8g
70-180 Micro
300/4
2xIII TC (the latest one).

This should cover you well. I think the fast primes will cover most of your daily shooting needs. The couple of tele's with the new 2xTC should help you out when you need it.

Hi all. I have a D800 that I use for most of my general photography. I feel it produces astounding images I am growing tired of the weight of my kit. However, I am unwilling to switch to a Oly OM-D, Sony Nex & or Fuji X-1 pro because the D800 output is so good. So I returned my MB-D12 and I am learning to live with the camera alone, it's not bad.

My current lens line up is all Nikon:
14-24 2.8g superb and heavy.
24-70 2.8g Superb, lightning focus, heavy.
70-300 VR Fun lens for what it is.
70-180 Micro Nikkor
400 f4d Sharp, heavy, no VR, OK focus.
50 f1.8g Sharp, slow focus, bulky but OK compared to 24-70
85 f1.8g Sharp, slow focus, bulky but somehow I like it better than the 50.
TC 1.7II Seems to work well with the 400.
28 f1.8g on order.

I am thinking of keeping the 50 and 85 f1.8's along with the 28 f1.8 when it comes in. I have no replacement for the 12-24 I do not use it often, but IMHO there is no substitute. Shooting interiors is important to me and the 14-24 is my go to lens. I read about the Zeiss lenses and everyone goes GaGa when Zeiss is mentioned. However they suffer vignetting and lack of auto focus, but on a UWA that is not to important to me.

I was thinking of keeping the 70-180 for macro and tele. I don't know what to do above 180mm. I really want to keep a lite kit I need to choose between the 70-300vr and the 300 f4. (I know at 300mm there is no comparison.)

Can I get by with great performance with the 1.8 trio, the macro and 300mm?

When I take off my 24-70 and put on the 50 or 85 1.8g I am very disapointed with AF speed, I understand their 1.4g counterparts are no speed demons either.

Your suggestions are appreciated. I really want to reduce the weight. I am tempted by an OM-D but I am just blown away by the D800 output and I don't want to give that up.

BTW, my wife has a V1 with 10, 10-30, 30-100 kit. I have access to that at anytime. It is a much better camera then it gets credit for but I hate the interface. If it was a traditional PASM camera it would be awesome.

I hunt, I peck, I squint, all on a MacBook Pro 13" laptop. So don't laugh, I'm happy there aren't more typo's! (Love the screen and touch pad, hate the keyboard.)
