I passed up the d800 several weeks ago and purchased a Nikon 500mm f 4.0 vr lens instead for use on my d3s. I shoot a lot of bird photography so my top priority money wise and photo wise was to purchase the lens to improve my bird photography.

I may still purchase the d800 later when I am financially able and or purchase a pro dx camera if Nikon comes out with one and keep my d3s.

The d800 looks to be an excellant all around camera that can perform a lot of different type photography well. The high mp's would be good for cropping in my bird photography so I may still consider it in the future.

The d4 also looks great, but not enough of an upgrade for me to trade up.

Every camera made has its strong points and weaker points including the d800 or d4. It all depends on which camera fits your overall photographic needs.
