It's a difficult issue. Despite being left-wing, I do believe in personal responsibility and that people choose to live unhealthy lifestyles because it's easy, people are lazy and looking for a quick fix. Certainly, high caloric foods are addictive, as the fats and sugars stimulate the release of hormones in the reward centre of the brain. But the body also signals if the diet is unhealthy. Which signal is acted upon is a choice available to all but a very select few individuals with a medical condition.

You should research food deserts. It's a huge problem, particularly in inner-cities where the food choices are often extremely limited.
