re the shadowy columns, the simplest explanation would be small prominences

If the moon had an atmosphere I'd say the layering was due to refraction.

But it doesn't, so I have no idea what we are seeing there in the solar photosphere.

I'd erase those hot pixels in PP before giving the shot to the press

And well done on your barn door mount !
