I've owned both of these lenses and I think before you pick you need to ask yourself what are your priorities:

1) Portability
2) Low Light Ability
3) Range

Which two are most important?

If portability and low light are your priority, you're looking at prime lenses (135 f/2, 200 f/2.8)

If low light ability and range are your priority, you're looking at the 70-200 f2.8

If range and portability are your priority, you're looking at the Tamron 70-300 VC USD or something like the Canon 70-200 f/4L USM (which is a fabulous lens)
