Ok I'll try exposing to the right for highlights. I use the Sunny 16 rules and set ISO to 160 and Tv to 160 and start out at f/16. I knew I needed more light so I stopped down to f/4 and Tv 1/90 if I remember the exposure for this image.

I also use the rear LCD as an exposure guide and color guide asa well. I needed to change the WB to standard, cool to get the violet correct.

Btw. for Kodak dSLRs do it opposite way, expose to the right (you can overexpose a bit) and pull back. If you do it reverse way, it just boost noise. Its very similar to using Canon 1Ds, you dont want to lift shadows, but pull back highlights. Tho when I think about it, its same even for 5DMK3, as it bands in shadows.
