Nikon seems to be having trouble producing/implementing AF modules in recent years. I went thru the same disorienting experience with the D7000, and, after giving up on that camera (I had two bodies), and getting a D700 - well I know for a fact it "wasn't me". I still have the OOF D7000 files to prove it.

I am in a "queue" for a D800 at a local shop - eta sometime this summer - my first shots will be "tests". Not what one should have to do ...
