K30.. the end of k5
May 22, 2012

I think that with the introduction of the k30 and the preliminary reviews from dpr, our beloved k5 will be in its way out and will be slowly supplanted by the k30.

It is interesting that the way Pentax has worked in the past is to launch always a better camera than the top of the APS-C line of the moment, with a better price and similar or better specifications. Then, after this happening, a new, more advanced model will follow.

It happened to the k7, which was replaced by the k5. The k-r was replaced by the k-X. Now the k30 comes on top of the k5: lower price and better specifications.

Pentax will need to feel the void left by the k5. What's next? hopefully a full frame around $2,500 which can use all the existing line of FA and legacy 35m lenses. We will see......
