Single shot example...

Here's an example of the E-M5's dynamic range. I've shot in similar situations to this with the GH2 and other m4/3 cameras a lot. The E-M5 is the first that could ever capture this in one shot. This is a bench in full shade, shot at f/1.4. The bright areas in the background are full mid-day direct sunlight (this was shot at 12:41 PM), with a cloudless sky, so about as harsh of light that you could ever get...and the E-M5 can still retain all highlight detail, as well as all shadow detail. Regardless of the degree of improvement over previous m4/3 cameras, the fact that it can handle this range in one shot basically, at least for me, means that it can capture enough range for almost any photographic situation. (of course, HDR would still likley be required when shooting into the sun when having shadowed details).
