New 12-35/2.8 is NOT weathersealed
May 21, 2012

Im just browsing the comments on this and the new boards. People seem to toss around the term "weather sealed" a lot.. but, if you read the actual press release, you see that Pana goes out of their way to not use that term.

In fact, it seams to have the bare minimum in terms of environmental protection on a lens; i.e. a rubber gasket at the lens mount. This is better than nothing, but, its not the same level as say the 12-50. Lots of lenses have rubber gaskets at the lens mount, but, that doesnt make them "weather sealed".. which is why Panasonic did not use that term.

With the telescoping zoom mechanic, the biggest issue is dust/moisture ingestion from zooming.. there is no mention of gaskets in area (which is found in the 14-54 for example).

From the PR:

"Additionally with a rubber ring on the lens mount, the new lens is designed to stand up against splash and dust making it ideal for outdoor photography enthusiasts. A highly reliable metal mount endures long time use."
