Even Nikon says a solar filter must be used. Putting it in the drop in filter is still too risky. There has incidents where people with telescopes have done something similar. The eyepieces they used ended up fracturing after a few seconds, or melted part of their scope. Your lens has more glass than any ota, it would be a very expensive lesson on what not to do. I use a full aperture solar filter on my 300 2.8 for that same reason.

You can always make your own, it's cheaper. Also, with the transit of Venus coming up, it has been very hard to find full aperture filters, either film, or glass. The film is readily available, and sold in sheets.
