D800, SDXC and MacBook Pro - can't copy files...

I recently purchased a 64GB Lexar Professional 600x SDXC UHS-I memory card to use with my Nikon D800.
While the card works great, I consistently get error messages when I try to read the card using my MacBook Pro (15", 2011 model with built-in SDXC card reader) running OS X Lion 10.7.4.
The error messages prevent me from copying the files from the card, or sometimes reviewing its content. The error eventually goes away after repeated attempts of removing and re-inserting the SDXC card (i.e. 2nd time or even 7th time).
I tried keeping the Lexar SDXC card "locked" while inserted into the MacBook Pro to prevent OS X writing to the card.
I tried formatting in the Nikon D800.
I tried formatting (ExFAT) using OS X Lion.
I tried formatting using SD Formatter 3.1.
Sample screen shots below.
If I insert the card into the D800, all files are intact, and the D800 has no problem playing files and videos. This method works whether the memory card was locked or not during the Mac reading attempt.
Anyone else facing the same problem? Is it the camera? Is it he card? Is it the Mac (Hardware or Software)?
Unfortunately, I don't have an external SDXC card reader to test on Windows.
Thanks!
