Question about shooting raw + jpg

If shooting raw + jpg. Or even just raw. The raw file is brought into Lightroom. Before I make any adjustments, what am I looking at? Is it the image with the adjustments that were suggested by the camera (i.e., does it look exactly like the jpg in the beginning) or is there some default for all of Lightroom's parameters?
