When it 'stays', that means the EVF isn't updating in realtime anymore. In the OVF, the first 74-150ms (depending on the camera) would be blackness. After that, the mirror drops so you can see exactly where your subject is (light coming in to the finder in real time).

With the EVF, the previous image just 'stays' there, so you can't get an update on what the subject has done before the next frame. But by the time the next frame is displayed in the finder, it's already out of date...

If you want to see what I mean by seeing the subject in real time between shots, set your SLT to the slowest advance speed, and hold down the shutter. Notice that between shots, the video feed returns, and you can see motion.

No, that is not true. Using the EVF in continuous you see realtime, but the realtime image "stays" (for lack of a better term) on the screen as an artifact for a few milliseconds while the shutter opens and closes, where with an OVF that same few milliseconds is blackness. What you're seeing is an image artifact on an led screen disguised as an optical illusion, that's all.

Don't believe me? Put your SLT in shutter priority mode, set it to 1/4 second or more, and then pan and take a single shot while you continue to pan. With the shutter open so long you can really see how the image freezes while the shutter is engaged and then goes back to live when the process is complete. The fact that you can do the same process 12 times in a second doesn't change the mechanics of the process itself, it's just the way your mind is processing the 12 distinct "freezes" in that sped up mode versus what it is expecting to see.
