I find this positioning quite ergonomic. To remove a lens I simply grasp the barrel in my right hand and compress the release with the first knuckle of the index finger while gently twisting counter-clockwise. Is yours different?

Add every other 4/3 and micro 4/3 camera from Olympus and Panasonic to the list of those that have it in the same place. I'm pretty sure the only one with it in a different spot was the Leica.
