First a FX D600 (or whatever it will be called) would not be a replacement for a high end DX camera. A low cost FX is for people that have entry/mid DXs now and want the advantages of FX but do not need all the bells and whistles of a 'professional' camera (D800 or D4 or D300). A low cost FX provides an alternative path for people looking to upgrade their DX. If you want better features go for the DX Dxxx(x) (D300 replacement). If you want a FX sensor then go for the FX Dxxx. They will probably cost about the same, maybe the DX will be more expensive as those going for the DX will be less likely to upgrade to FX in the future.

For releases, the FX will come first. This is because Nikon knows it will make more with an entry FX than a pro DX. Most people who want a pro DX either already have a D300 or a D7000, and have upgraded their lenses to 2.8s and 1.4s. Nikon will make money off of them only from the sale of the body, as the consumer is less likely to buy more lenses since chances are they already have most of the lenses they want. Of course they will get some sale of lenses but not a huge amount.

The FX would produce huge sales for Nikon. Again DX users would be coming to FX, so they are now buying lots of FX lenses (most likely the entry ones Nikon has a patient on). And then again in the future to get 'better' lenses (f2.8s and 1.4s).

So the reason the FX will come first is to compete with others brands. If Nikon has an FX first then they are more likely to keep those lower end DX users that have not invested tons in lenses (and may be more apt to jump ship). The pro DX users Nikon knows will be less likely to switch because Nikon knows pro DX users are going to take a huge loss during the switch. Sure some will switch, but these are customers that are likely to come back once the competitor is behind.

All that being said I see a FX D600 released in July and a DX D400/D7100 being release late sept maybe October. So if you want a pro DX be ready to wait some more, or just go elsewhere and be happy until that company falls behind... we'll be here waiting for you.
