Yes. Be aware that sync speed with the E-M5 will be under 1/250. Probably the camera will limit you to 1/160 (as with the Metz 48) -- I wouldn't expect higher without verifying first.

The E-M5 itself has a sync speed of 1/250 (page 109 of the fine manual). I could imagine some flashes might tell the camera it can't do non-FP flashes at that speed.

That's the headline number, but it's very misleading . Here are the cameras sync limits of which I'm aware:

  • clip-on -- 1/250

  • FL-600R -- 1/250 (I believe; I don't have it to verify)

  • F-36R -- 1/200

  • FL-50R -- 1/160

  • Metz 48 -- 1/160

That's not what I would expect from a camera claiming 1/250 sync. As I said to Louis, don't count on more than 1/160 without verifying.

I'm a bit peeved about this actually. Note that the 1/160 limit is actually lower than those flashes would do on even the E-620! I don't know Oly's reason for this situation. Firing slaved in manual mode my Metz 48 syncs cleanly at 1/200 at full power (1/250 has slight darkening at the top of the frame, but no black band; without the propagation delay of slaving 1/250 might well be clean too).
