The D800 was actually a camera that I was considering seriously, for landscape and architectural as well as atmospheric late evening/night shooting. It seems to be a huge step forward.

Since I tried a friend's D700 with some of the associated glass again, and this time, at his insistence, actually took it on one of my photo walks/hikes while he used my stuff, I have come to realize that I could not manage as flexible a kit as I do with Olympus, unless I went with a couple of FX primes and the DX stuff for longer focal lengths. (I'm medium sized, and, at 63, getting smaller, and even he, at 6' and 200 pounds and 48, was complaining about the weight of his kit- the reason he made me carry it. ;-).

So, since I own a great deal of good Olympus glass, and have been pleasantly surprised by the prints of such subjects - up to 24"x32" or so- that I can get out of even E-620 files (or in a couple of cases E-1 ones!), I'd more or less decided to give the OM-D a try first. Your comments on the DX setting of the OVF, which I didn't try, have confirmed my decision, and I've ordered an OM-D, which should give me pretty close to the functionality of the D800 in DX mode wiht a lot less cost and weight in all
but the most extreme low light and very wide DR situations.

Photography is a small voice, at best, but sometimes one photograph, or a group of them, can lure our sense of awareness.
