Great medium telephoto lens
May 17, 2012

My current lens collection consist of Nikon 24-70mm 2.8, 50mm 1.8D, and Nikon 85mm 1.4G with a d700 body. I mainly shoot portraits, events, and some landscape here and there.

I've been thinking about purchasing a medium or long telephoto lens to compliment my 85mm 1.4G. I don't often see my self using focal length longer than 150mm, so the 70-200mm is not really an option considering it's expensive. I've been seriously looking at the Nikon 105mm 2.8 VR Micro. I also thought about the 135mm f/2 DC but it's more of a specialized lens, and 105mm 2.8 VR seems to be more versatile.

My question is, is 85mm and 105mm too close of a focal length to really compliment one another?  Or would you recommend another lens? I don't have a macro lens so I feel as though the 105mm would bring a versatile package at just $800 or so.
