D800 with a 28 1.8g a 50mm 1.8g and an 85mm 1.8g would be a nice travel kit but... the Xpro-1 is smaller, lighter, and less expensive. There are a lot of bells and whistles in the D800, do you really need them?

I have the D800 with zooms, primes, and the PC-E lenses. It's great to have all of the options, but I bought an X-Pro1 for traveling. I take the Nikon gear when I travel for shooting architectural assignments, but for walking around I wanted something smaller and lighter, something less obvious, something fun. The DSLR even with the small primes in the shoulder bag can be uncomfortable after a full day of city walking and backwoods hiking.

I think you should try the XPro-1, maybe try to rent one for a short trip.

Good Luck and have fun!
