The Zeisses don't have the rubber gasket like the pro nikkors. Probably not a big deal, but if the trip is once in a lifetime, it might be more advantageous to go with a nikkor zoom rather than prime setup to avoid environmental issues.

At 100mm, my Zeiss 100/2 makro just kills the 70-200 VR (I), even if both are stopped down to f/8.

I had brought both along on a recent Africa trip; took a few comparision shots of the same scene with each, and preferentially used the Zeiss whenever I could.
