100mm macro, AF & 5D3

This is rather a specific question with respect to auto focus with the 100mm macro (non-L). Whilst focus is super fast sometimes, at other times, it hunts more than my other lenses (50L & 70-200 4 IS), particularly so if not using the central vertical line of AF points. I guess several questions:

• have others experienced focus hunting with this lens?

• has anyone compared focus ability between 100L and non-L, I know that the 5D3 is not able to use many cross types with the non-L so is the L focusing better?
