Strange "glow" on A77 images

I have noticed an odd phenomenon with some images taken on my A77 and I'm at a bit of a loss to explain it. I get an odd glow around high contrast areas, particularly in bright light. I thought it was my lens, a Tamron 17-50, so I sent it in for repair (thanks Tamron for the superfast turnaround). However, the newly cleaned and calibrated lens produced the same results.
The attached image shows the problem well.
This image is heavily cropped but is otherwise unprocessed. The lens is wide open at f2.8 50mm, 1/3200. It was taken in bright undiffused sunlight.
Overall the image has a lot of glow, even in the areas in focus, that saps the image of details. The glow is enhanced as the image falls out of focus. Oddly, it seems that there are areas just beyond the plane of focus that are double exposed, with one exposure being kind of focused superimposed with a blurry image.
I have tested this on another lens I have, a Sony 50-200, and the results are similar.
I have a feeling that there may be some layer of dirt on the transparent mirror element. But I am not sure if I am just over reacting. It was really bright out. But I just have a hard time believing this is normal behavior. I'd like to get some other opinions and suggestions.
