I use the 18-55mm EF-S IS for most of my wide to moderate zoom photography. It is not fast but it is very sharp. Also, if you shoot raw and use software that corrects distortion and minor fringing you will be eliminating the weaknesses that seperate this lens from its higher priced brethren. The contrast is as good as the light you shoot in.
