In our Photo Group there has been much discussion on UV filters.
Even the best do degrade the image - one internet tester showed it converted a Canon L (professional) lens to consumer lens quality.
I would use a filter when shooting on the beach, especially if there is a strong wind.Also under dusty conditions- motorsport rallying or motorcross. It is easier and safer to clean the UV filter rather than thelens under these conditions.
