Unless you're out of drive space, always shoot raw. I've heard 12 vs 14 bit arguments, but I don't see a reason to shoot 12 bit unless you're regularly filling all of your flash cards.

I wouldn't bother with any lossy compression in the original images. Those are your masters and you never get the shot back. Unless the write speed to the flash card prevents you from getting your max burst and might cause you to miss a shot, use lossless or uncompressed, whichever is faster (you should compare write speeds and burst length with your actual card).

As long as you plan on post processing and you have a fast computer, get as much data as you can. Nobody ever looks at their back catalog and wishes they'd used a lower resolution camera, or a higher compression on their JPGs.
