D800 and high ISO noise.
May 13, 2012

Can't seem to get my head around this, but I've only had my D800 for ka couple of days so haven't fully explored its capabilities.

When shooting full resolution (36mp) then down sized to say the 12mp of the d3, I can see that noise would be reduced. What happens however when you shoot in DX mode. The cam then outputs a 15mp image (so is very close to the D3(s) or D7000 resolution. So is the noise produced in the D800's DX mode worse than a D7000 or D3 or better.

It seems to me that most of the high iOS examples have been reductions from full resolution images not DX mode.

It's just that in the dozen or so shots that I've taken in DX mode at ISO 3200 to ISO 6400 look worse to my eyes than my D3 (although it is probable operator error).
