Canon will launch the 7D successor. A D400 will be a necessary answer to that, a D7100 won't. Think of the D7000 having a similar relation to the D400 as the D90 has to the D7000: Lower prices and sell well. The D600 will be the FX companion to the D7000, in every possible way. And definitely not "pro" level.

The D5200 will have to be more like a DSLR version of the 1 series, I don't think it's time for that yet. Nikon doesn't need such a model now, either, even if the ergonomics of the D5100 to some may be about as bad as it gets.
