Hi Fred---would you consider renting a D700 to accompany your new 70-200 2.8? I borrowed a friend's D700 this winter when photographing indoor high school swimming, and it offered a noticeable improvement compared to my D90. The combined weight of the D700 & your 70-200 will be significant, but probably a wonderful set-up. (I used my Sigma 50-150 2.8 on the borrowed D700. The cropped frame didn't bother me as I was always photographing one swimmer at a time.)

I completely understand your quandary and am grateful that I won't need the higher ISO capability until December when the HS meets resume. The D90 will serve me fine for summer club outdoor swimming.

I realize that you want to purchase a DX body now, but I hate the idea of purchasing 'old' technology when such significant improvements are achieved between model upgrades.

Good luck this summer. Hoping you post photos. Noreen
