OT: Leica's monochrome camera
May 12, 2012

I've seen the topic of a dedicated monochrome camera discussed from time to time, and the advantages are supposed to be increased sharpness and dynamic range. But now that Leica has built one, and the samples are on line, I can't believe what I'm seeing. The images stink. I can't see any sharpness advantage over the B&W conversions from my 5D II, and the highlights seem to blow out quickly. Has anyone else taken a good look at those pix and come to the same conclusion? Does the emperor have no clothes?

On top of that, with no color info you can't simulate filters (as in PS) so if you want dark skies you actually have to carry a pack of filters with you and switch them as necessary, just like the old "D76" days. Can't see the point of this cam.
No Signature.
