The US Postal Service has no problems with normal-sized lithium batteries. But the post offices of other countries do, and international mail goes through both sets of hands.

Speaking as someone living outside the US I can tell you I've never had a problem with our mail people ( or the UK people either ) blocking normal Li-ion batteries in cameras.

My understanding is that the regulations they're using relate to air transport, not specifically to mail. And those regulations are a direct result of the FAA's actions, not anybody outside the US Government.

The first rule of all bureaucrats everywhere is to spread the blame and the second is to cloud the issue. Never believe anything they tell you.

There's a book called "Is there anything that eats wasps ?". One day I hope to find out if there's anything that eats bureaucracy.
