Using G lenses on non-Nikons with an adapter.

Hi, I am not asking this as a troll. I have been shooting Nikon for years, and just bought a Sony NEX7 to use with, not in place of, my D700. I bought an adapter from a third party company. It lets me mount and use my Nikon lenses on the little Sony, but with no connection to the automatic features, including the camera setting the aperture on my lenses. My question is this, and I fear the worst, is there no way for me to adjust the aperture on my G lenses without the camera doing it? Short of adjusting the shutter speed and ISO that leaves me pretty limited if I can't. Thanks for input. And yes I searched the forums for an answer and just want confirmation of my fears. Deep thanks for any input.
