Huge Oppurtunity for Olympus: E7 or E50
May 11, 2012

Olympus has a great oppurtunity that I hope it sees.

On one front, it looks like Nikon is going to double down on FX and leave DX to the consumer mass market. No more pro-DX model.

Olympus sits on a great piece of hardware, the OM-D E5 and still has a great lenses system in 4/3 Zuiko HG and SHG lenses.

Rumors are that whatever Oly has cooked up seems to be better than the E-5 and hopefully borrows a lot from the OM-D

So, what if we get a camera that can handle m4/3 and 4/3 lenses in a E-1 package? You already have an embarrassment of good primes in the m4/3 platform and amazing zooms on the 4/3 platform. You would be able to grab a m4/3 body for vacation and then a larger body for more serious shooting and have a single cadre of lenses. Hopefully, the E7/E-50/Whatever will be "Pro" level so Oly already winning some other brand converts could also entice them to move from say DX to 4/3.

This could be a huge win for Olympus provided that E series continues to benefit from advancements in the O-MD series of cameras.

I know this is all speculation, but that is what we do best around here -- LOL!
