Why not RAW capability?

Are you sure that cameras always produce a complete raw picture ?

Perhaps they encode straight to jpeg in order to save on RAM/buffer capacity.

As such there wouldn't be a way to extract the 'original' raw from the hardware if they wanted to.

(do cameras that shoot in raw & jpeg allow for faster speeds if the only output is jpeg ? I wonder if that's been tested.)
