Agreed. The D5100 is a very good camera and the $950 two lens kit, offered at Costco and perhaps some other retailers, offsets trouble associated with its complex menu and quirky video settings. It a high-end tool in a poor guy's clothing. Heck, there are all kinds of special modes and a intervalometer built in.

Problem: the D5200 may resolve the video quirks, but higher pixel count and noise may make it no better than the D5100, especially as the latter becomes cheaper.

With all due respects to the OMD or GH2, is either really worth the extra cost, relative to the D5100?

A GF3, discounted to $350, with a 14mm f/2.5 lens included, offers perhaps the greatest marginal utility, as an upgrade from P&S, for casual work. And, unlike any of the above, it actually can fit in a cargo pants pocket!
