Gh2 sensor, Panasonic MN34070, uses column-parallel ADC
May 9, 2012

I have just found confirmation that the sensor in the Panasonic GH2 uses column-parallel ADC, as in recent Sony/Nikon/Pentax sensors, unlike Canon sensors or those in most other m4/3 cameras.

Chipworks identified he sensor as the Panasonic MN34070

http://www.chipworks.com/en/technical-competitive-analysis/resources/recent-teardowns/2011/01/teardown-of-the-panasonic-lumix-gh2/

and now Panasonic has described this sensor and its colmn-parallel ADC in this 2012 document:
http://www.semicon.panasonic.co.jp/en/catalog/cat/pdf/T12013CE.pdf

This does not help with the mystery of the E-M5 sensor though!

Smaller lenses, better in low light, more telephoto reach:
you can have any two at one time.
