Overall opinions of the first version of Sigma 50-150 2.8 lens

I had looked at the first version of the Sigma 50-150 f/2.8 lens a couple of years ago. I felt like I really didn't need it with my D200. I now have a D700 and was wondering with it being a FX camera if this is something I should look at again. I primarily do a lot of sports shooting at night, so crisp shots, fast focus, and no hunting are priorities. Who has this lens with a newer Nikon that can give me some feedback? Thanks.
