CS6 Extended Upgrade vs. Educational Discount

I originally purchased CS5 Extended at an Educational Discount price (my wife-to-be is a teacher). Now that CS6 has been released, I see that the upgrade price is $399, but I can buy a whole new Educational version for $249.
What am I missing?
