NEX-7 vs. Canon 5D Mark II - for professional
May 9, 2012

I'm a semi-professional photographer, that's getting the photobug to expand - perhaps even into full-time professional.

I currently shoot exclusively with a NEX-5, the kit lenses (16mm and 18-35mm), and a Sigma 50mm f1.4 lens with LA-EA2 adapter. My subjects are mainly interiors, and food, but I also do some portraiture work to accompany those images.

I'm to the point now where a second camera will be useful and give me more flexibility for shots/framing (i.e. NEX5 mounted to tripod doing wide-shot of interior, with zoomed lens on another doing close-ups, portraits, and vignettes).

Naturally, since I love and enjoy my NEX5 and have some lenses for it already my first instinct is to get the NEX7...I'm familiar with how to use camera, button configurations, love the live view aperture/exposure adjust through LCD, etc. However, from a professional standpoint it seems everyone I encounter is toting around a Canon 5D Mark II.

Am I naive in thinking the NEX7 can be every bit as good as Canon 5D Mark II? Especially since I'm considering getting some better Zeiss lenses to go with the NEX7. It seems with NEX7 I can do all I could ever imagine doing...bracketing, mount external bounce flash, wireless sensors for multi-flash or strobes, etc.

Is there something I'm missing? Do you think the NEX7 is good enough if I do go professional?

My images can be seen on 500px ( http://500px.com/metropochris ), my portfolio site ( http://www.chrisperezphoto.com ), or my blog ( http://www.metropochris.com ). If you're curious to see where I'm coming from.
